State of the Board: January 2012

2012 Brings In the Year With Database Corruption....
Somehow our database that runs this entire site got corrupted. After much frustration and research, I decided that I needed to restore a backup. I looked to our database backups.... Imagine my horror when I found that the last backup done was in August 2011! So lacking a more recent database backup, I restored the August 2011 database to the site and disabled the board to prevent stuff from being overwritten during the data restoration process.....

EDIT: Database backup used was from November 2011, not August 2011.... :o

What I didn't realize at the time was that disabling the board disabled our website as well.... I'm pretty sure it disabled the XPtsp GUI's downloading function as well. On January 3nd, It took me several hours of looking through phpBB's code to figure out how to allow the website to be run without enabling the board. So the main site has been back up and running for the last two days.

Today, I've got the forum re-enabled. Registrations are disabled at this time because I still need to re-integrate the old member list with the current member list. This SHOULDN'T take too long, but I do apologize for this inconvenience.....

UPDATE: [s]Evidentally no one signed up since November 28, 2011.....[/s] :o Registrations are now open.

UPDATE (Jan 06, 2012): Evidentally, my local copy of the username table ends at November 28, 2011. The other table is unrecoverable, so you will have to re-register if you signed up after November 28, 2011 and before January 5, 2012.

UPDATE (Later Jan 06): I found another 2,000 usernames and have added them to the user table. Unfortunately, I lost the last 15 users that registered due to user id number overlap..... But resolving this issue also resolves a different issue with topics being listed in the forums, but when you click on the topic, the topic won't be displayed.
Life is hard.... It's harder if you're stupid.... \'
